Stop Night Flights at Newcastle Airport

Stop Night Flights at Newcastle Airport
Why this petition matters
From 11.30pm onwards there are currently 10-14 arrivals throughout the night until 5.30am. They also fly much lower than they should depending on the weather conditions. The picture was taken from our back garden and shows how low these planes are 8 miles from the airport. There are no departures from 11pm to 6am. This means all the communities on the eastern side of the airport on the arrivals flight path have night flights all night.
There is no consultation process for local people to object in the UK, apart from complaining to the Civil Aviation Authority via an online/written form (form FCS1521 Use of Airspace Report). If enough people did this it may work but the airports and airlines play on the fact that not enough people will complain for this to be effective.
Only parish councils within 5 miles of an airport are consulted and those beyond that are not consulted. Parish councils do not often object and objections locally are often overridden as a result of pressure from airlines/airports.
Since leaving the EU the government is currently in a consultation process about airspace because EU rules no longer apply. This is the time to have your say in this process.
Night time slots are cheaper and as a result the budget airlines use them. In the case of Newcastle it is Jet2, Tui and Ryanair. At Newcastle there is plenty of capacity for day time slots. Do you want to pay for their profits with their noise and pollution affecting your health and the environment?
There is evidence that sleep disruption by such noise causes cardiovascular problems, fatigue, immune system problems and many more health issues. Even if you become accustomed to the noise it has a detrimental effect that you are not aware of.
The noise also disrupts the sleep patterns and health of wildlife and pets.
Planes also emit a large amount of CO2 so any reduction in their emissions is welcome.
If you do not object the flights will only increase at night.
If we do manage to stop these night flights hopefully people at other airports will object to night flights. The ultimate goal would be for the government to give people an official means of consulting about airport noise and give people a say in what noise levels they can tolerate.
