If we don't take action NOW a new 300 million pound "super" prison the size of sixteen football pitches (nearly a million sqft) will be built in the heart of the beautiful Leicestershire countryside. The new "super" prison is set to be built beside the already existing Gartree Prison which neighbours the pretty village of Foxton famous for its picturesque Foxton Locks.
The new "super" prison would triple the area's prison population. Our infrastructure can't cope with 3000 additional car journeys per day - massive light pollution - environmentally disastrous - no socio/economic benefit locally.....
Central government is trying to force this on us. Our district council unanimously rejected it because it is a greenfield site and not a suitable location for such a prison.
Do you really want this in Market Harborough?

"I am writing to object to planning proposal APP/F2415/W/22/3300227 for a new prison at Gartree, near Market Harborough, for the following reasons: The proposal is contrary to the Local Plan, which is the reason that Harborough District Council unanimously and correctly refused it. 2. The proposal is disproportionate in size, will create huge volumes of local traffic which the local infrastructure cannot cope with and will damage the environment, particularly through light pollution 3. The proposal will not bring socio-economic benefit to this area. I urge you to reject the Ministry of Justice’s Appeal." Your name
