Inflation rates in Canada are at a record high. This year alone, the inflation rate has shot up to 7.7% -- the highest spike since 1992! As a result, many Canadians are experiencing financial strain and finding it harder and harder to make ends meet.

One area in which prices have really increased is in the food industry. Loblaws (provigo, dominion, maxi, superstore, shoppers drug mart/pharmarprix) Empire (IGA,Sobey's, Safeway, FreshCo) and Metro (Food Basics, Super C) have significantly increased their prices. At the same time, they've also reported record huge profit increases. This isn't okay.

Increasing prices to match increasing costs is understandable. However, significantly profiting off of essential goods at a time when Canadians are already struggling is unethical and tone-deaf. 

Realistically, these prices are never going to come back down, even when high production costs do.

We don't have to let this happen. Let's take a stand.

TL;DR: Prices at stores that Loblaw, Empire & Metro own have significantly increased. These companies claim it's to make up for cost increases; however, they've also reported large profit increases this year. Making big profits off of essential goods when inflation is skyrocketing & many Canadians are struggling is unethical and tone-deaf.

Please join your fellow Canadians in striking against Loblaws, Empire & Metro stores for the week of May 30th-June 6th, 2022. Spread the word to everyone you know -- family members, neighbors, friends, colleagues, and so on. Take a stand and do NOT shop at any of their stores for the week.
