Trenton Fort was just 16 years old when he was shot and killed in Callahan,Fl. Taken away from his family, friends, and community far too soon. The murderer only received 15 years and his accomplice is already free. Nassau county failed Trenton. Judge Daniel failed Trenton. In court, Gavin Smith showed no remorse regarding the life he took or the lives he shattered. In fact, he mocked Trenton’s family with his consistent grin and blowing kisses to his family as if it was all a joke. Does this sound like a remorseful person to you? Judge Daniel ignored the facts, disregarded the disrespect and mocking, his mind was already made up prior to stepping foot in that court room because a “thug” could never be the white kid in shackles with a prior history but the black kid that’s life was taken. Judge Daniel said he wanted to give Gavin a chance, that he just had a rough upbringing. Gavin now sits in jail as a white supremacist, tattoos representing white power and murder on his face. Judge Daniel, you were wrong and if it wasn’t clear then, I hope it is now.
If we all come together and use our voice, we can make a change! Signing this petition will bring concern to Judge Daniel and getting a new, unbiased judge and that all crimes resulting in death get 25 to life. All lives don’t matter until Black Lives Matter too.
