Josy has been part of our Quaker Community in Norton, Stockton-on-Tees for four years, as well as living in Stockton and being part of the community there. Josy is from Zimbabwe and has been supporting one of the principal opposition parties and has also defended LGBTQ+ rights in Zimbabwe. She came to the UK as an asylum seeker since she felt she was in mortal danger because of her activities.

She is a cheerful caring person much loved by the people who know her and organisations such as the British Heart Foundation in whose charity shop she has tirelessly worked.

Unfortunately here asylum claim was refused. Following this refusal she was taken into an immigrant removal centre at Colnbrook near Heathrow and at the moment is scheduled to be removed to Zimbabwe tomorrow (Wednesday 7th September 2022).

A last minute appeal is being attempted tomorrow morning. Needless to say Josy is extremely frightened for her safety and her life.
