IXL should be no more at Sullivan East Middle School. If you are new to IXL, IXL is a learning program primarily used for math. While this does sound good it has many downfalls. Many students have experienced the frustration and stress of this app/website. For example, u have a “smart score” that is like a percentage that you have to get to a certain point (usually 70-80 to receive credit). It sounds just like any other math website but when u get one question wrong instead of it letting you know what you did wrong it drops your “smart score” down about 7-8 points. It’s very frustrating when you are working on it for hours (keep in mind that u are usually assigned 3-4 lessons) and you get something wrong and your score drops. Teachers also assign IXL overtop of normal book work, so now kids have more homework in math and homework in their other classes too. This causes stress and lack of sleep (some kids have after cuticular activitys). While I do understand the positives of this website such as practice and help, many people are against this site as much as I am. So this is why I’m starting a petition to end IXL at Sullivan East Middle School.
