Stop IDPH from changing IL EMR Test to National Registry Test
Stop IDPH from changing IL EMR Test to National Registry Test
The Issue
80% of IL counties are rural and rely on volunteer Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) as first responders for 911 medical response. These EMRs are the first on the scene for medical emergencies and provide critical interventions before the ambulance arrives.
Due to the current EMT/Paramedic shortage, there are fewer ambulances and longer response times.
A move to the National Registry Test imposes financial burden and barriers for these volunteers and reduces the availability of these essential services in our communities. Maintaining the current state-based testing system is crucial for ensuring the continued availability of emergency medical care in these underserved areas.
The situation is dire, and the time to act is now. Existing EMT/Paramedic testing changes negatively impact the recruitment of EMTs and Paramedics - we cannot afford to let this happen to our EMRs. We must prevent an increase in mortality and morbidity rates due to delayed emergency care.
We, the undersigned, implore the General Assembly and IDPH to protect the health and well-being all Illinois residents by maintaining existing EMR testing standards.
