Stop Horse Slaughter Within the United States

Stop Horse Slaughter Within the United States
The Issue
Thousands of horses every year are sold through auctions and private sellers to slaughter houses. Others are stolen from other people's property and sold to these slaughterhouses for profit. Although most Americans are against the idea of consuming horse meat, there are several slaughter houses that are currently in business. $42 million dollars worth of horse meat is exported per year, with the majority of this money going to foreign exporters over-seas.Horse slaughter is an intolerable and completely unacceptable act for humans to take upon. The amounts of cruelty and injustice done within these slaughter houses to thousands of horses is not something we should just by-pass. As of the year 2009, the United States had produced nearly 25,000 tons of horse meat. This is a shame, and our country is only portraying embarrassment upon this action. In 2011, congress passed a bill which omits the ban on USDA horse meat inspections. Therefore, we are allowing horse slaughter to continue within the U.s. Regardless of whether these are wild horses or not, a horse is not an animal which is appropriate to consume. Horses are unlike any other animal. They are intelligent, strong, and brave creatures. They have a sense of emotion unlike any other animal. What Americans are doing to these animals is wrong and we must turn this problem around.
