HORSE SLAUGHTER is Not a Humane Alternative
Horse slaughter is NOT humane euthanasia. Horses suffer horribly on the way to and during slaughter—it is not unusual for them to travel more than 24 hours at a time in cramped conditions without food, water or rest. The methods used to kill horses rarely result in quick deaths: The animals often endure repeated stuns or blows, and sometimes remain conscious during their slaughter. ~ASPCA Blog

Support a ban on the cruel horse slaughter industry

With more than 82,000 horses slaughtered in 2012 alone, Canada’s horse slaughter industry is among the largest in the world and a shameful betrayal of our loyal companions.

Veterinary experts around the world have denounced horse slaughter as inherently inhumane and shocking video footage has repeatedly shown cases of animal welfare violations in Canadian horse slaughterhouses. Moreover, horses are not raised for human consumption and many come in contact with dangerous banned substances that should not be for use in any animal intended for human consumption.

This fall, MP Alex Atamanenko will have the opportunity to put forward his Private Member’s Bill C-322, a bill that would end the cruel and unsafe horse meat industry. For the future of Bill C-322, it is essential that you show your support for a federal ban on horse slaughter in Canada. Tell your MP now that you support Bill C-322 and that you oppose the slaughter of horses in Canada!

Your tax dollars would be spent to inspect a meat not raised for food, while taking away money to inspect the meat we do eat and raise for food.

Since horses are not raised for food they are not raised under the food safety guidelines and therefore are given medications which are banned from use in ANY animal intended for human consumption.

Why should our tax dollars be spent to help make foreign interests money while taking away protections from our own citizens

Horse slaughter is about food production, it is not about unwanted old, injured, sick and neglected horses, it's about supply and demand. A supply that is filled with our young healthy horses.

Please call and or fax your congressmen.

I WOULD THIS TO STOP!!!!  IM SORRY IM NOT GOING TO POST A PIC OF A MISUED HORSE!  I THINK PEOPLE UNDERSTAND!

Horses are NOT for consumption. They have been a part of our evolution for THOUSANDS of years, carrying us on horseback, pulling our carriages and plows for crops. We would not be where we are as a civilization without them - that alone should be enough cause for us to respect them enough not to eat them. Honor our history. Now, horses are a part of another form of transportation. They are our partners in personal and leadership development, they take us to the depths of our psyche and gracefully show us how to be better humans. Read the work of Dr. Allan Hamilton, a neurosurgeon who eloquently describes the science between the horse and human interaction, and how merely being around them - in their presence increases our brain function. They are also used in therapy for the mentally and physically handicapped. Have you ever seen an autistic child get on the back of a horse? Their faces light up with joy and their expression defines the very connection they have with that sentient being at that moment. People suffering from muscular dystrophy go through physical therapy on the back of the horse, because of the way they move simulates the way our hips move when we walk. The millions of reasons why this law should be overturned are details, a story. The true reason is in your heart. Could you really eat a horse? Sign this petition if you disagree with horses becoming a part of the drive through menu at your local fast food chain.
