The Labor State Government is supporting a seven-storey apartment tower near the corner of High Street Road & Blackburn Road, Mount Waverley.

A review of the Government’s planning documents has revealed:

·        96 new residential properties will be built; 

·        almost 50 per cent of the new apartments will require on-street parking (due to the allocation of only 0.6 car spaces per dwelling);

·        the proposal underestimates local daily vehicle movements; and

·        local planning powers will be stripped from the City of Monash in favour of the State Planning Minister.

This proposal represents a direct threat to the 'Garden City' character of Mount Waverley’s suburban streets. It will also worsen traffic congestion at the nearby intersection.

The petitioners request that the State Government REJECT this project AND the Monash Council AMEND the local planning scheme to prevent developments like this occurring in the future.
