Stop Governor Christie & NJ Legislature from Taking Legal Ads from Newspapers
This petition had 537 supporters
Governor Christie’s bill (S2855 and A4429) to remove legal advertisements from newspapers is nothing more than his personal vendetta against the printed press. There will be absolutely NO government savings from this measure as what it will save in fees to newspapers will be eclipsed by what it will cost in government staff.
This will also lead to a lack of oversight by the press and the public when it comes to bid processes and will ultimately lead to more corruption.
This bill will lead to the END of weekly newspapers statewide. It will mean serious budget cuts and layoffs at over 100 newspapers throughout the state, including daily papers. People will lose their jobs and the public will be less informed.
Weekly newspapers are the only outlets covering local government - most of them are independently owned and operated family businesses with small hardworking staff.
Sign this petition and help put a stop to Governor Christie taking his anger at The Star Ledger out on the entire New Jersey Press.
