John L. Smith, columnist with the Las Vegas Review Journal said it best in his 2008 article titled: “Trapping, a frontier tradition, no longer makes sense in Southern Nevada.” WE AGREE! ( http://www.lvrj.com/news/36287979.html )
Most Nevadans are NOT aware that FUR TRAPPING is going on in the LAS VEGAS VALLEY, Clark County and across Nevada. Many documented incidents show dogs, cats, and other unintended animals have been brutally caught in traps (see Trailsafe.org website).
Fur trapping is a lucrative hobby with Bobcat pelts going for as much as $1,100/each. A recent video, in the news, of a trapper abusing and tormenting a bobcat caught in a leg-hold trap, shocked and angered many people in Clark County and around Nevada. ( video link: http://www.youtube.com/verify_age?next_url=/watch%3Fv%3DfFm3ntOi4iU ) The trapper is an appointed member of the Clark County Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife (CAB). Four of seven CAB members are “avid trappers.” In NV, ID is NOT required on Traps & Traps are only required to be checked every 96 hours (4 days!). And, according to NV Dept. of Wildlife, it's a COMMON VIOLATION to NOT visit traps within 96 hours.
Nevada Wildlife belongs to ALL Nevadans yet, ONLY hunters, trappers, ranchers are tasked with making decisions to MANAGE OUR WILDLIFE. We DEMAND to have a say in Nevada’s Wildlife management. With over 2 million people in Clark County, many who love to recreate all over Clark County including within the Mt. Charleston/Lee Canyon area & within the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation area it is a public safety issue for people and their pets to allow trapping in Clark County to continue.
NOTE: IF YOU COME ACROSS ANIMALS IN TRAPS OR ALREADY HAVE PICS OR VIDEO OF ANIMALS IN TRAPS AROUND SOUTHERN NV, PLEASE FORWARD TO : email@example.com
