Currently at Tuskegee University all students are required to purchase the Student Health Plan even when the student is already covered by their family health plan. This is a practice which adds to the financial burden of families who are already struggling to pay college tuition and expenses. TU representatives in the Bursar’s  Office and the Office of Student Affairs seem to be trained to tell every individual that inquires about this student health plan that it’s mandatory and no one is allowed to opt out. However, most colleges offer the option to opt out with proof of family medical coverage. I would like for TU to offer this same option to all families.
