I and most of the  resident of Paradise Park have been here for over 20 years, me personally over 30 years.  We were verbally given a 99 year lease by Mrs R Schoonegevel and her husband.     

The park was sold, unknowingly to us to Sable Cape/Magna, a development company.  We have been in a long court battle to keep our homes, yet an eviction order was handed down on the 20th April 2022, giving us 3 months to move and break down our homes, and that in the middle of winter. 

There are 211 homes, housing, single woman with childrens, parents with children, old and infirm people, people with serious health issues, and most of us live on a Sassa, government pension (R 1 980.00 per month). A lot of people used their pensions to buy a home here in Paradise Park.  Most of us have nowhere to go to and cannot afford other rentals.

The government has difficulty supplying housing to low and medium income bracket people, yet here we are, people that have homes, being made homeless, to accommodate high income develpment/accommodations.

We seriously need help to keep our homes here in Paradise Park, Hermanus.  Our homes need to be secured and the general public have the power to reverse the eviction order. 

Being on the street will be a reality for us, not just a saying.
