Stop Dolphin Killings at Faroe Islands

Stop Dolphin Killings at Faroe Islands
Why this petition matters
The Faroe Islands have a long-standing tradition of slaughtering hundreds of pilot whales and dolphins. This cruel practice involves the animals being dragged to shore with blow-hole hooks where their spinal cords are then severed and throats slashed. In 2021, a record-breaking number of 1,428 dolphins were killed in a single day. Over 100 bottlenose dolphins were slaughtered this July alone, the second largest hunt of this species ever recorded on the islands.
While the Faroese government has recently instated an annual dolphin hunt quota of 500, this number is rarely enforced, and the quota fails to address the problem. The Faroe Islands violate many agreements of the European Union, including CITES and the Berne convention. Additionally, existing laws to make whale hunting more humane are not appropriately implemented.
Please sign this petition to end these senseless killings!
