Dear Friends of Fish Island:

Greetings!

So the good news is that we have not seen any development activity on Fish Island!

Thanks to all those who came out to support Fish Island at the Saint Augustine City Commission meeting on September 24th. We demonstrated once again that the community is united in wanting to preserve Fish Island.

We will have a table at the Saint Augustine Amphitheatre Farmers Market on Saturday, October 27th, from 8:30 -12:30. Our goals are to: 1. Continue to publicize the special nature of Fish Island; and 2. To gain new members of Friends of Fish Island by asking people to join us.

Can you give us an hour on Saturday, October 27 to help with the booth?  If so, please contact Lisa  McGreevy.  L.McGreevy@att.net  202-669-1017.

In addition to a fantastic new pop-up sign, we have new bumper stickers that we will hand out to anyone who signs up.  The sign is very well done and shows Fish Island and Antigua. We will have a great impact at the Farmers Market.  Please come out and support us and buy some wonderful produce!

So what’s next?

While we do not know the exact status of the DR Horton contract, we believe that the contract is still valid. We are working on a letter to DR Horton asking them to join us in our efforts to preserve Fish Island.

The advocacy committee has been meeting regularly to discuss next steps. We have met with the Mayor of Saint Augustine Beach and she has indicated that she and the beach commissioners are in support of preserving Fish Island.

The historical committee has met with the Saint Augustine Historical Society to ask them to sponsor the placement of the Historical Marker.

If you have ideas and suggestions of what we can do to continue our efforts to preserve Fish Island, please let us know.

Thanks for your continued support.
