A family living and working in Ottawa are facing deportation where they’ll face uncertainty, torture and possibly death in their home country of Rwanda.  The matriarch is a nurse in Rwanda and has been working full-time in French and English through the pandemic as a PSW in a long term care home. Their 2 children attend school, they are housed and contributing to society and integrating well since 2019.  

Our work in the New Canadians Clinic at Centretown Community Health Centre sees many refugee claimants successfully receive permanent residency in Canada with similar stories and paths to integration. It makes absolutely no sense why this lovely family should not also be granted the same, equal opportunity that we so desperately need to support our health care system and grow our population with Canadian values.  

We are asking the CBSA to release the family from detention centre and the IRCC grant them humanitarian grounds for permanent residency.
