Dear Mr. Ahmed Hussen and Mr. Ralph Goodale,

Re: URGENT PETITION! STOP the deportation of Beverley Braham and her unborn child

We are writing to express serious concern about the deportation of Beverley Braham, which has been scheduled for Saturday March 25th, 2017 at 1:30am with NO ONE to receive her in Jamaica. She is a 38-year-old, married woman who lives with her Canadian husband. She is 31 weeks pregnant and has a high-risk pregnancy. Flight will be dangerous to her and her unborn child. Currently, she is receiving prenatal care in Canada and if deported to Jamaica, she will be subjected to poor and inadequate prenatal services. Beverley lacking prenatal health care can increase the risk of pregnancy and neonatal complications before, during and after her pregnancy. Furthermore she will be removed from the only family and support she has in the world, which is her Canadian husband, family and community network.

Beverley is a human being, with another little human being growing inside of her under the most life-threatening situation. Can you imagine the fear, worry and panic of Ms. Braham under such horrifying conditions? Who will she go to when she arrives in Jamaica? Where will she live? Homeless? When will she see her husband and family again? Family less?

As a Canadian, we have always been proud to be a part of a country that is a strong proponent and has a positive model of human rights for the rest of the world. Beverley’s removal from Canada will not only impact her and her unborn child, but her family and network of community members. This case has received attention and concern from the global community (see social media campaign #BeverleyBraham and online petition). All eyes are on the Canadian government. If Internationally, Canada will be viewed as a country that is okay with creating homelessness and trauma for women and their unborn children. Is this the kind of event/legacy Canada wants to leave especially during Women’s History Month?

We are calling on the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Ahmed Hussen, to cancel Ms. Braham’s removal, allow her to give birth in Canada, and permit her to remain in Canada during the processing of her application for permanent residence as a member of the Spouse in Canada class.

Contact the office of the new Minister of Immigration Ahmed D. Hussen - (613) 954-1064 or email and the office of the Minister of Public Safety, Ralph Goodale - (613) 947-1153 or email

Tell them that you think deporting Beverley Braham is unacceptable and you want the decision overturned immediately!
