PFAW/F’s Democracy Campaign has been pushing for election reform on multiple fronts, and progress is being made on the fight to stamp out deceptive practices. Sen. Barack Obama’s Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act has been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the full Senate must not delay in making sure this bill becomes law in time for the '08 elections.
The bill would make it a federal crime to use dishonest or deceptive practices that disenfranchise voters. PFAW staff and our allies have worked closely with Sen. Obama’s office to make sure this bill is as effective as possible at stopping voter disenfranchisement though deceptive practices, and passage is more likely now than ever before.
Please don’t let this moment for a real improvement in our electoral system pass us by.
- U.S. Senate
Sen. Barack Obama’s bill to end deceptive practices is a crucial step in ensuring criminal penalties for those who use dishonest and misleading tactics to disenfranchise citizens that are legally entitled to vote. I urge you to co-sponsor this bill and push for it to become law.
