Ananda Badudu started this petition to Polda Metro Jaya and

Versi Bahasa Indonesia

My good friends, Haris Azhar (Executive Director of Lokataru Law and Human Rights Office) and Fatia Maulidiyanti (Executive Coordinator of KontraS) are human rights defenders who are constantly fighting for humanity in Indonesia.

On Wednesday, September 22, 2021, they were reported to the police by the Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, for defamation complaints. Using the Electronic Information and Transaction Law (UU ITE), this report was based on a video uploaded in Haris's Youtube channel when both of them discussed Luhut's alleged involvement in the mining business and military activities in Papua.

This report threatened the right to freedom of expression, not only for Haris and Fatia but also for Indonesia's civil society!

The government has made various attempts to silence the movement. This report is a follow-up to Luhut's first subpoena to Haris and Fatia on August 30, 2021. On the same occasion, Presidential Chief of Staff, Moeldoko also sent his subpoena to Egi Primayogha dan Miftah who works for Indonesian Corruption Watch, on August 2, 2021.

If Haris, Fatia, Egi, and Miftah are being repressed today, then tomorrow might be possible that yours and my rights are being taken away!

Through this petition, I want to express my disappointment towards the intimidation that has been done by the government to civil society and invite you to urge:

1. Luhut to withdraw his police report against Haris and Fatia;
2. Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police to ignore Luhut's report; and
3. Moeldoko to stop his subpoena against Egi and Miftah
4. President Joko Widodo to guarantee freedom of expression in Indonesia
