Camden and Campbelltown councils are closing sporting fields due to the weather prematurely and sometimes unnecessarily.

Sporting fields are being “inspected” and deemed unsafe to play on days prior to the start of each round and when the days in question come around most field are indeed playable but due to premature decision making. Weekend games and activities can not go ahead.

Individual players as well as family’s could pay up to $1000 to play sport each year and these councils are only looking after their own best interest, that being money. These councils claim that safety is the number one reason and priority but in reality they do not want the fields damaged in any way because it may cost them money to fix in the off season.

Community sport is a big thing for all communities, it brings people of all backgrounds together whether these people play the games or come down on weekends to relax and watch.

Sporting clubs also have loyal volunteers who spend every spare hour possible in their lives organising and creating enjoyment for others in the community and unfortunately the greed of councils are taking these enjoyments away from everyone.

The priorities of these councils need to change and reflect the needs and best interest of the community and not just themselves and their money.

A unified voice is needed to change this and hopefully with enough signatures, the councils will be forced to approach the closing of sporting grounds for whatever reason, in a legitimate manner that is in the best interest and safety of the community and not in the best interest of the councils bank account.
