Copse Lodge Action Group object to the latest (fourth) application by JBM to construct a huge solar farm on 182 acres of land in the valley between Halse, Greatworth, Farthinghoe and Marston-St-Lawrence. (Application No. WNS/2022/0557/EIA)

Why?

  • The scheme as proposed will bring about significant change to the local landscape character all leading to significant adverse landscape and visual effects.
  • The application site does not have the capacity for a solar development of this size if it is to comply with planning policy and guidance.
  • The 130kV substation would be located in a prominent area, close to Greatworth, and highly visible from all roads and footpaths due to its size and height; also, it would NOT be decommissioned at the end of the 40-year period
  • Loss of agricultural land which would be better used to grow home-produced food – even more important since the invasion of Ukraine (the breadbasket of Europe) could seriously impact wheat imports from both Russia and Ukraine
  • The cumulative impact of HS2, Drovers Lane Solar Farm and Farthinghoe bypass on the area
  • Harm to heritage assets – including those at Steane, in the Greatworth Conservation Area and the former Deer Park
  • Negative impact on the Public Rights of Way (PROW) network
  • Benefits claimed by the developer are significantly overstated
  • There are better places for a solar farm in our area under the same land ownership

HOWEVER OFTEN JBM TWEAK THEIR PLANS,  WE BELIEVE THAT THIS VALLEY ALONG THE UPPER REACHES OF THE RIVER GREAT OUSE WILL NEVER BE THE RIGHT LOCATION FOR A SOLAR FARM OF ANY ECONOMIC SCALE.
