Collegium system of appointment of Judges in Indian Judicial system looks impressive on paper but this has led to mafia like set up in Indian Judiciary.

Judges who are in place select their juniors out of the existing juniors or eminent law professionals. As such, most times, brothers, children of senior Judges find place in recommend panel for new appointments. Formally this has to be approved by President of India, which means, law minister and cabinet od Govt. in power will have to approve it.

 But review for Government is Limited to panel proposed by Collogium. Here Judiciary is acting at their own will. Every Govt is having so many critical cases pending with Judiciary, they virtually under pressure to accept the recommendation of Chief Justice.

This system has led to several incompetent persons to acquire Status of senior Judges.

Recently in case of please of lady Nupur Sharma is is seen, judges have blantlantly crossed their jurisdiction and made absurd comments. The language and nature of comments clearly shows that the Judges were not competent enough to handle the power assigned to them.

So Collogium system should be done away and appointments procedure should me made in line with other administrative services.
