STOP CELL TOWER installation in our Community

The Issue

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Last night (6/12), the San Gabriel Planning Commission approved a permit to allow a 49ft cell tower installation in the Church of our Savior parking lot (535 W. Roses Rd).   Although public notices were sent out, they were received by residents less than 6 days before the meeting.  It was a particularly busy week for many families since it was the last week of school.  We just weren't given enough time to process the information, research it, and respond.  With minimal opposition appearing last night (only 7 comments were submitted), the planning commision approved the project 3-1 in favor of the cell tower.

We are now organizing a concerted effort to appeal the decision.  Please join us in opposing a 49ft cell tower installation in our residential community.  Don't let this decision set a precedent to allow further cell towers to be installed in our residential neighborhood. Zoning ordinances are put in place to prevent this type of building in residential areas and this variance should not be an exception. Per other residents, there has been a previous attempt to install a cell tower in our community back 2011.  With a large amount of opposition, the proposal was not approved.  Together, we can stop this before it starts!

Why It Matters to You

  • Health: Cell phone towers emit radio-frequency radiation.  There have been studies that show adverse health effects from exposure which include headaches, dizziness, nausea, gastrointestinal problems, heart palpitations possibly even cancer. The long term effects are unknown.
  • Aesthetics: The proposed cell tower will be 49ft tall.  Structures like this belong in commercial areas, not in our residential neighborhoods.  A cell phone tower does not belong in an area where we eat, sleep and raise our families
  • Precedent: Although this particular cell tower may not directly affect you, it can set a precedent for future tower installations in our residential neighborhood.  Don't let that happen!

Next Steps:

  • We have 10 days to appeal the decision (deadline is 6/22/23); the organizers will submit one appeal form
  • Pay the $1670 application (appeal) fee (organizers will cover this fee but will welcome donations- please do not provide money here)

What You Can Do:

  • SIGN THIS PETITION to appeal the decision (a single, official appeal form will be submitted alongside our petition)
  • Join us when our the City Council or Planning Commision meets to vote again (date to be determined)
  • Read any potential updates the City sends in the mail
  • View the City's Proposal Packet HERE

Thank you for your support!  Let's do this!
