Why this petition matters

Stop Calderdale council from taking away Elland Junior Football Club's U9's, U10's and U11's football pitches on Hullen Edge Park (the Rec). Relocate the wild flower plan to elsewhere in the park.

Calderdale council are planning to plant wild flowers on a massive scale across three junior football pitches on Hullen Edge Park.  These pitches are used every weekend throughout the football season, hosting up to and above 150 under 9's, under 10's and under 11's grassroots footballers for Elland Juniors Football Club matches on Sunday mornings.  The club is a great asset to the local and wider community with over 200 children registered who, along with their parents, get to experience the numerous mental and physical benefits that can be gained from participating in and organising grassroots football.

The pitches cover less than half of the area of the Rec, leaving ample room elsewhere for the wild flower project to be planted.  Locating it directly across the three marked out football pitches is completely unnecessary and will have a significant impact on the club's ability to host the number of matches required to keep all of their current teams running.

We're not asking for the wild flower project to be cancelled, just for it to be sensibly relocated a few metres to the north of the existing longstanding football pitches.
