Recently at the 2022 World Skate Games in Argentina a team was allowed to compete in brown face. This practice is widely accepted to be harmful as it oftentimes perpetuates negative stereotypes and promotes false narratives about the races and cultures in question. As a Mohegan woman, I was appalled by the powers that be that allowed this to happen. I certainly am not choosing to be silent about this and I hope you can join me in showing world skate that this is disgusting and not okay.

This is not an isolated incident either. In recent years I have seen numerous incidents of blackface, cultural appropriation, and performances that were just flat out offensive. 

Rules need to change. By signing this petition, you are signing your support for World Skate, the governing body involved in the World Roller Games, to implement a rule prohibiting the practice of painting/wearing one’s skin to portray a different race in a program.
