Stop "Bill C-11" and save YouTube
Why this petition matters

This “C-11” bill needs to be stopped. Trudeau's government is trying to regulate Canadian YouTube channels the same way they would most Canadian movies, TV shows, music, and radio stations. However, in their eyes, most individual Canadian content creators' videos don't fall under the "Cancon" regulations, which in other words, means they aren't "Canadian enough".
As a result, these creators' YouTube videos will be buried in the YouTube algorithm, and will get less views. For bigger channels, that could be a huge or even deadly loss in ad revenue.
For those boomers saying "get a real job", what they don't understand is that YouTube is a dream job to so many people, and if this bill passes, the government will just be taking that away from every Canadian creator who have accomplished it through no fault of their own.
For smaller creators such as myself, it will become extremely difficult to grow our channels, and I might even consider just giving up if this pill passes.
This will also impact casual Canadian YouTube viewers. My general experience on YouTube is that I’m recommended things I want to watch. However, that could change if this bill is allowed to pass. Me and many other viewers on YouTube will be recommended things we have no desire to watch, and things we are interested in will be a lot harder to find.
Many YouTubers have already spoken out about this, including several Canadian creators and even a few Americans such as Scrubby and Optimus. One Canadian creator, J.J. Mccullough, already went down to Parliament earlier this month to try and stop this awful bill.
While that attempt unfortunately failed, more people need to be aware about this and more people need to be angry about it. The more controversial this becomes, the greater chance it will be stopped, which is what needs to happen.
In conclusion, I believe C-11 is extremely unfair to Canadian content creators and viewers, and if it could be altered or stopped altogether, that would save a lot of YouTube channels.
