Maternity leave was crucial to my wife’s mental health. Please do the right thing!

Wow how sad is the USA for being so backwards. Shame on the AVMA for even thinking about proposing this. The majority of your profession comprises of women. Are you a bunch of bitter infertile women and old white men proposing this lucid idea?

We give lip service to the preciousness of our children, yet short change them in every possible way only to increase profit. Three months for a good start in life is not negotiable.

Thèse hard-working doctors need the time to nurture their infants in their most vulnerable first months...

I am in full agreement with this petition. The birthing process is extraordinarily taxing to the female body and mind. Not only do new mothers need the rest and recovery time before returning to work, they also need that time to bond with that new life and to make sure their mental health is in check. Any woman, mother or not, can understand how hard the whole process is. It's time for employers everywhere to recognize the importance of employee health and safety....

If anything, the postpartum patient should have more time to bond with her baby. The child’s development improves with mother’s care
