This petition was created to oppose building apartments that have been proposed on the corner of Lake Miriam Drive and S Florida Ave. Please sign this petition to oppose building these apartments on this busy intersection. The facts follow: There are multiple accidents every year on Lake Miriam Drive, it is a two lane busy road, which was deemed the most dangerous road in Polk County 2003-2008. On Lake Miriam Drive there is a middle school with a line of vehicles for dropoff and pickup every school day. Middle Schoolers are walking home in the afternoons, when they are dismissed at 4pm.  This situation creates standstill traffic before and after school on a two lane road. So many Lake Miriam Drive Neighborhoods are shopping Lake Miriam Publix, each neighborhood has only one road leading out to a few simple main roads, There are no through streets, everybody has to drive the road out of his/her/their neighborhood and go to Publix on Lake Miriam Drive. With this 240++ apartment proposal, there could be up to 500 more cars traveling on the two lane road during the busy hours.  Again, the busy hours are 7-9:30am and 3:30-6pm rush hour. This situation is a nightmare for traffic and emergency vehicles, and will result in an increased number of accidents Traffic Studies have not been circulated. Please sign this petition to request All 7 commissioners revote on rezoning the property.

Apartments are not the thing to build on the designated lot. Commercial zoning is best for safety next to busy SouthFlorida Avenue.
