Why this petition matters

Started by Aayan Agarwal

Protests recently erupted over CAA , NRC, NPR and others. The police, especially in BJP controlled states, responded quite brutally like the recent JNU violence. The police re beating protesters, using tear gas , firing shells , not granting permission for peaceful protests, throwing placard  and sending protesters home in autos.

This is not the police of a democratic country . According to Articel 19 1(b) all citiznes have the right to assemble in a peaceful manner, the police refuses such permissions. Even when permitted protests do occur the police respond brutally to these.

Also , whenever protests erupt the government imposes section 144. This is an abuse of power, it can only be used to maintain law and order and not quell disent.

The government often shuts down internet. This may be permitted for a short duration, but is done for a long time it is sub again an abuse of power. It is a violation of Article 191) (g)  which allows us to practice any profession. Internet shutdowns impact the jobs of many people.

India is a sovereign, socialist, democratic republic. It must remain so
