Sensible Traffic Planning on State Highway 45 in Circle C

In the last week, today is July 26, 2014, there have been two horrific accidents at the intersection of State Highway 45 and Escarpment Blvd in the Circle C area of Austin, TX. This has to be one of the most unsafe intersections in Austin, TX.  The speed limit on SH 45 is 70mph! Cyclists have no bike lanes and are also often at risk, and there are no walking paths connecting the new neighborhoods for our children to safely travel to see school friends. The once rural road is now surrounded by numerous housing developments.  And traffic has grown significantly in the last several years with this being a major connection for residents down South to reach MoPac en route to downtown Austin and places North. The entire section of road needs a residential overhaul. The Texas Department of Transportation needs to redevelop this area of state managed road and include: traffic lights at cross over intersections, reduce the speed limit, and build bike and walking paths along this stretch of SH 45 from 1826 to Slaughter.  Please encourage TXDot, the City of Austin and our leaders in Circle C to stop another accident and keep our families safe.
