Stop AMU From Penalizing MA Students After Second Year (English Programs)
Why this petition matters

According to recent requirements at Poznan's Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU), second-year MA students who study in English can be faced with unfair financial penalties. If students fail just one course from their program and/or if students cannot defend the thesis for that year, then they are removed from the official list. This means that they will have to repeat all courses from the second year and pay the full tuition fee of 6,000 PLN. We feel that paying the full tuition fee is a financial penalty toward AMU's international community. Full-time MA students who do not study in English are exempted from tuition fees. If they are faced with the same problems, they can repeat the second year without payment. There are many reasons (illness, injury, work-related, etc.) why students fail courses or may need to defend their thesis in the third year. As foreigners, we feel that the current requirements discriminate and discourage us from studying here. Not only that, they can be a devastating blow to our colleagues' academic careers. Let's create a fairer environment for everyone, and have the Rector implement the following for our English programs:
- Have students retake failed courses by paying per course, not the fee for the full academic year. Students should also not have take any additional courses for the second year.
- If students need to defend their thesis in the third year, they should take and pay for the courses relevant to the thesis; not repeat the full second year.
- Removing a student from the official list should not come with any financial penalties.
- Offering a personalized evaluation from qualified staff in outlining graduation requirements for the final year.
