City of Hollywood Florida has decided to build 2 “Traffic calming roundabouts” on 64th Ave between Sheridan St and Taft St. They are planning on building one on the corner of Thomas St and another one just 3 streets South on Park St. Traffic backs up on 64th ave everyday going North and South, the roundabouts will just make it worse. While I understand that the city is trying to come up with a solution to stop the speeding on 64th Ave, a simple stop sign or a speed hump/bump along the Avenue would be a much simpler solution and I would imagine either would be less expensive to install. Let’s not forget to mention the fact that the home owners on those 4 corners will loose part of the property to accommodate for the roundabouts. This is just not the solution that we need. We have a major flooding issue in this neighborhood, that is what is more important to fix. The City Commissioners for District 5 stated that the residents asked for this, however I am a resident and was never asked or have I seen this brought up as the fix. There are other options that can be used and a roundabout seems like a major waste of funds, funds that could go towards fixing the flooding or other items in our city.
