Help Us Save Sombrero Marsh

Help Us Save Sombrero Marsh
Why this petition matters
The City of Boulder is planning to build a large (31,000+ sq ft) metal factory at 6500 Arapahoe Road. The proposed site is adjacent to Sombrero Marsh, Boulder Open Space and 3 residential neighborhoods, and is on land owned by Boulder Valley School District (BVSD).
Sombrero Marsh is located within a few hundred feet of the proposed factory site. Sombrero Marsh is a Critical Wildlife Habitat, a Wetland and Riparian area, a Significant Natural Community, and a naturally formed non-coastal saline wetland. It is listed on the National Wetlands Inventory. The Marsh provides essential habitat for shorebirds, wading birds, and diving birds and is a vital spring and fall stopover for migrating birds along the Rocky Mountain Flyway to rest and feed.
The traffic route for the proposed factory is along 63rd Street, which is within 10 feet of the Marsh border and immediately adjacent to Columbine Mobile Home Park (raising social justice issues). For both the Marsh and the mobile home park, the very heavy traffic will be devastating in terms of noise, activity, dust and emissions.
The proposed site is on public zoned land. Manufacturing is prohibited on public zoned land in Boulder. However, the City and BVSD say they can ignore their own regulations because BVSD is a sovereign entity. Concerned citizens have filed a lawsuit to dispute this highly questionable claim; the lawsuit is currently ongoing.
Please join us to push back against this development. We need people and funding to support the lawsuit and to force the City of Boulder and BVSD to address this issue properly. More information and a donation link are available at https://www.sombreromarshunited.org
