Every summer and spring at Stony Brook, dorms become saunas as residents bake in their dorms in hot temperatures without air conditioning. While it might seem trivial, adding air conditioning to Stony Brook dorms would increase students well-being, and performance. We know that when people sleep better, they perform better in all aspects of their lives, but room temperature is also closely related to how people sleep. If Stony Brook would even allow students to bring their own air conditioners to campus, this would allow for the opportunity for students to get properly rested and set them up for productive days studying
