Why this petition matters

If you are impacted by the constant barrage of noise from the DeKalb Police firing range on North Goddard Road, please sign this petition. We need to band together to ask DeKalb County why it is subjecting its citizens — and visitors to the Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve — to a daily barrage of gunfire. There is no need for our community — especially a community like Stonecrest — to sound like a war zone!

Aside from the disturbance and anxiety caused by this near-daily onslaught, the spent ammunition is an ecological issue, particularly in the middle of a pristine National Park, which has experienced record usage as Covid19 and civil unrest has residents and visitors desperate for, solace and solitude. Only to be met be a violent barrage of gunfire. We all deserve better.

For clarity, I am not asking to ‘defund’ the police (whatever that really means), only that they practice shooting at an indoor range, where tax-paying citizens aren’t subjected to the unsettling noise.
