Make roads safe around Grove Academy

Make roads safe around Grove Academy
Why this petition matters

Grove Academy is a Junior School with currently nearly 420 students on-roll. We are located in Northwood, Stoke-on-Trent and surrounded by roads on all four sides of the school with high volumes of traffic. Only one of these roads, Turner Street, has traffic-calming measures (speedbumps) but this does little to reduce the speed of some drivers passing our main gates, and does nothing to address the issue of parking and limited visibility for our children and families who have to cross the road between these parked cars.
In 2019, there were 13,574 casualties aged 15 or under involved in road accidents. 39 of these unfortunately, resulted in death. In addition to this, only a matter of days ago, on the 4th of January, there was a two-vehicle collision on Turner Street at around 2:30pm. One of the vehicles hit the railings outside our school. It does not bear thinking about what damage to life could have potentially been done had school been open on this day, just as the children would have been dismissed.
We do not want any of our children, their siblings, parents or carers to become a statistic and for this reason, we are asking for your support. We are asking all parents, carers, residents and members of the local community to sign our petition, imploring the Local Authority to do something to make the roads around Grove Academy safer for everyone. We propose better signage and speed warnings, increased patrols by traffic wardens and/or camera cars and further traffic-calming measures.
Thank you in advance for your continued support and any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
