Save Our Sexual Health Service! (KeeleSU)

KeeleSU is appalled to hear that funding has been withdrawn for all Sexual Health and Prevention work in North Staffordshire along with the closure of a number of other services.
We are certain that this will have a serious detrimental effect on the sexual health of our students, many of whom rely on the highly valued services provided by the NHS sexual health service.
What’s changing and how will it affect Keele Students?
- Say goodbye those free condoms – From the start of this month, C-Card condom distribution will no longer be available in North Staffordshire Venues.
- No more on campus screenings – Remember getting a quick and easy chlamydia screening during Fresher’s? The mobile B-clear screening and HIV screening, along with other services provided by the Prevention Team will be no more. It’s now up to you to make an appointment with your GP or travel to the GUM clinic in Cobridge. On the subject of GUM clinics…
-Get used to busier clinics – If you’ve ever been to the Cobridge GUM clinic, you’ll know about the month long waits for appointments or hour long waits during drop ins. This is set to get even worse as 2 major CASH (Contraception and Sexual Health) clinics in the local area close in May.
These brutal cuts are unfair, short sighted and will have far reaching consequences. We also firmly believe that these cuts will disproportionately affect Black and Minority ethnic, LGBT+ communities and Women. STI’s are increasing in men who have sex with men and the rates of gonorrhoea and chlamydia in BME people is 3x that of the general population. Cuts to contraception and young pregnancy support services will be deeply felt by women across Staffordshire. KeeleSU is not surprised that the needs of those within liberation groups is not a priority for the government. It is shameful to see cuts to the services of systematically overlooked communities.
Sign this petition and tell them what you think about the shameful slaying of our sexual health services.
