All a kid wants is to have a good relationship with their parents. In Alona Monet’s case, all she wanted was to have a healthy father-daughter bond. Alona stared living with her grandmother when her parents gave up her custody at the age of 3. At the age of 6, she had lost contact with both of her parents. Alona’s father came back to her life by the time she was 13 years old and gained full custody of her. 2 months into living together reunited, the physical abuse started. Nobody was there when she tried to get help. Although her father still kept on abusing her, she still wanted him to love her and no matter how hard she tried to gain the father love she needed and deserves, she was never “good enough” for him. When Alona was 15 years of age, she was raped by her father for the first time. She did not want that type of relationship but he told her that it meant that he loved her. Alona continually asked her father to stop but he never did despite her suffering and him having 2 wives that lived in the same household. A couple of months passed until she found out she was pregnant. She was forced to get an abortion by herself and get birth control. The abuse stopped for a couple of months and then, it began once again. For the next 2 years, Alona tried getting help until one day she called the police when she was at the age of 17. This still didn’t help because there was “no evidence.” She moved back with her grandmother and to this day, she has received no justice at all. Not only did she Stockton Police Department accused her of lying, but they also refused so look further into her case. After finding out that her younger sister is at risk of being her father’s victim too, Alona went back to the police department only to find out that they still have done nothing and reassigned her case to a new detective where she would have to start all over with her report. There is actual evidence to prove her father guilty but the Stockton Police Department refuses to make justice happen. Unfortunately, this will not be the last time something like this will happen due to the lack of justice in our so called justice system but together, we can fight to make a change for the better. We want justice. We need justice. This is not okay, was never okay, and will never be okay. This can no longer happen. #JUSTICEFORALONAMONET
