Help Dave to stay in the home where he feels safe

Dave Mohan has lived in a small b&b in Stockton on tees for a number of years He had been homeless for a few months and when we first met he was in a real mess.

Dave had some issues that we have been helping him with and also has some addictive tendencies that he has been working to overcome, the local council have decided to downgrade the accommodation where Dave lives to the status of a house in multiple occupation, this means that dave"s housing benefit income has been reduced from £73.20 per week to £57.20, this may not seem a great amount unfortunately this small reduction has resulted in Dave not being able to meet his commitments, the consequences are that Dave has no choice than to leave his home and may have be move to a local hostel

The unbelievable fact is the alternative accommodation ran by social landlords is being charged in excess of £252.00 per week paid for by the tax payer. Where is the sense in this !

Please help Dave to remain in the home he loves. if we win he stays and has a chance of a better life if we lose he may end up in the local hostel ! he would struggle to survive. he is not the only one to be affected we have helped many less fortunate people over the years many have gone on to better themselves and some still remain with us, The councils stance in this matter is to ignore calls and correspondence from us, the sad fact is we can not remain open much longer and assist the homeless in this area.

Without your help we will be forced to close completely or change into a small hotel only taking in people who can pay to cover the overheads on this building.

We need to convince Stockton on Tees council that their decision in respect of the small b&b where Dave lives is a bad one and to reverse the change as soon as possible before Dave and his friends have to leave, in addition they need to look at their housing benefits department and implement changes to reverse the trend of placing people against their will in places that are not fit for purpose for anybody in genuine need of help.

This petition is to request that Stockton on tees council allow the b&b to continue to operate as it has done for the past 13 years and for Dave and his friends to have their rents re-instated and not be forced to move to a hostel away from the place where he feels safe and calls home.
