When the council introduced permit parking to the area, the idea behind it was good. In short, to ensure the residents could park their car(s) close to their houses 24/7.

For this “privilege”, residents were charged a yearly fee.

Exactly what are we paying for? Additional security in the form of CCTV cameras? No. Do shoppers still choose to park a 15 minute walk from Stockport in order to save 70p on parking? No. Does it cost £35.00 to print the permit? No.

It’s almost a punishment for living close to office blocks and a town centre if you have a car. Fuel prices: UP! Insurance: UP! Cost of living in general: UP!!! Unemployment......UP!!!

In a time when families are struggling to put food on the table and heat their homes, the permit tax should now be scrapped. 

We are being asked to pay a yearly fee and we have absolutely nothing to show for it. 

Residents, with proof of ID and proof of address, should be entitled to yearly permit passes for each vehicle as well as guest passes for visitors. Work vehicles should be automatically exempt.

The crazy thing is, the road that leads up to our estate (which is closer to the office blocks and the town centre) is exempt from permit parking.....�

Stop hitting the most vulnerable where it cripples us the most!!
