Heaton Moor Pedestrian Crossing

We, the undersigned, call upon Stockport County Council to install a Pedestrian Crossing near Stanley Road on Heaton Moor Road in Heaton Moor.
This crossing would allow safe crossing for pupils of Charnwood Nursery, St Paul's Nursery and St Thomas' school (as the new catchment now extends down to Stanley Road*) across a busy road. In addition it will help parents taking children to activities held mid-week at the Scout Hut, St Paul's Hall and Heaton Moor United Church.
We believe the crossing should be near the junction of Stanley Road and Heaton Moor Road. This is approximately equidistant between the two existing crossings (at Moor Top Place and Shaw Road) and would allow children to utilise the quieter routes to school down Cranbourne Road and Alan Road.
Heaton Moor Road is a busy thoroughfare for rush-hour commuter traffic, learner drivers and is part of multiple bus routes to Manchester and Stockport city centres. The road is notoriously hard to cross due to the constant flow of traffic, which is often travelling at high speeds particularly at non-peak times.
Thank you for your interest in the campaign. We hope you will join us in signing the petition to make Heaton Moor a safer place for everyone.
*currently although children walking to St Thomas’ from the Stanley Road vicinity can use the Shaw Road crossing this involves walking alongside Heaton Moor Road for a considerable distance which is very busy. Additionally it involves crossing at Parsonage Road which is very busy with cars and buses turning in and out with vehicles frequently mounting the curb to navigate the corner.
