Kelley Cole started this petition to Stevenson School Board Members

Tell Stevenson School Board members to send a delegate to the Illinois Association of School Board Convention on November 23rd, 2019 and vote NO to Resolution One to arm teachers.

Background:

This is the second year that Illinois school boards are being asked to vote on potential legislation giving school districts the discretion to arm teachers.  24 votes separated the decision last year.  Stevenson High School did not send a delegate to vote.

Stevenson has said it will not arm teachers but it is important that Stevenson participate and represent the values of our community, the voices of our teachers and students by sending a delegate and voting NO to Resolution One.

A NO vote to Resolution One demonstrates an understanding that other school districts who decide to arm teachers and staff will affect our students when they travel for sports or co-curricular activities.

Research and evidence based solutions to school safety do not include arming teachers.  Instead, Illinois school boards have the option to vote on Resolution 3 which seeks funding for School Resource Officers who are trained firearm professionals.

Local school districts that have declared they will send a delegate and vote NO include 21, 50, 68, 70, 76, 95, 96, 102, 103,127, 128 and 214 at this time with more to come.

Stevenson's One Vote Matters!  Use it to reflect our values to not arm teachers.  Send a delegate and vote NO to Resolution One.
