Daphne Velinos started this petition to Health Minister for South Australia and

South Australians are asking for freedom of choice to end needless, intolerable suffering from a terminal illness or neurodegenerative illness at the end of life stage.

Victoria has Voluntary Assisted Dying Legislation and it has been factually proven to be safe, compassionate, kind legislation. An act of kindness and mercy for dying individuals suffering from a terminal illness. Western Australia is due to implement Voluntary Assisted Dying Legislation and Tasmania are currently in the midst of debating Assisted Dying Laws.

We ask each and every honourable member of The Parliament of South Australia to allow dying individuals the basic human right of accessing, if they choose, safe and merciful Assisted Dying , End of Life Choices laws.

On 15 separate occasions South Australia’s State Parliament have voted down safe and compassionate laws allowing individuals freedom of choice in accessing Assisted Dying Legislation.

This is fundamentally law based on human rights- the right to choose a peaceful death instead of dying in intolerable suffering. All citizens who are dying from a terminal illness or neurodegenerative illness deserve the right to die peacefully and in a manner and time of their choosing. To die humanely and with dignity.

My late Father died from Heart Failure and Myocardial Infarction after being diagnosed with Stage Four Diabetes. Being diagnosed with stage four Diabetes my Father was already dying. His death was foreseeable and imminent.

There was nothing humane about my Fathers death. His death was confronting for Palliative Care Specialists- and especially for my Father and my family. After multiple limb amputations and two years of painful and protracted Dialysis his heart succumbed to the trauma of Dialysis and his limb amputations. Instead of dying peacefully at home, he died in a cold sterile environment of an intensive care unit.

On behalf of all South Australians we urge  Honourable Ministers of The Parliament of South Australia to give dying individuals the choice- the option- of having Assisted Dying Legislation available to them at the end of life stage should their suffering be no longer manageable or tolerable,  where the quality of their life has been eroded and the quantity of their existence is nothing more than suffering- citizens deserve the freedom of choice to end, voluntary, their suffering.

This can only be achieved by workable and safe Assisted ( Voluntary) Dying Legislation.

On behalf of citizens of the State of South Australia - Thank you for choosing Humanity.
