Please see the breakdown of statistics below.   As many as 5,000,000 people are abused each year in nursing homes (Neglect, physical, sexual, financial, etc).  This petition is not just about elders, it is a request to help children, the elderly, or anyone who is in a facility that requires "timed visits" by their nurses or caretakers.  There is no government regulation for this!!!

On February 15, 2020 I lost a dear friend, Billy DeLuca.  He was a happy and free spirited, giving and loving man, who was only 65 years old and lost his life due to Gross Neglect in a health management facility in Yardley, Bucks County.  My father-in-law, shown in the photograph above, was found in his room laying in a pool of blood with a serious head trauma specifically because he was left alone in his room when someone should have been with him.  And, even more tragic, I recently learned of a 23 year old man who died in a mental health management facility also due to Gross Neglect.  The facility he was in had "hand written" records (signatures & dates) showing that someone checked in his room every 15 minutes (as required).  Their notes even went so far as to say he was awake and alert.  After his death, surveillance cameras showed he had not been visited for hours.  Please help me turn Billy and Julian's deaths and my father-in-laws trauma into the seed that is necessary for improvement.  We need state and government legislation to mandate that  "swipe card readers"  be placed in the patient’s room that show the nurse/aid visited that patient.  The swipe card would resolve at least one of the many different kinds of abuse that are taking place - neglect.  It is critically important that we address this in Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, Rehabs, and Mental Institutions as well.  Some patients require visits every 15 minutes and others require visits every 2 hours yet many of the patients are isolated for hours beyond their requirement.  A patient could be tangled in their blankets - restricted, they may need water, they may have fallen and are bleeding, or they may be suicidal.  Lets not underestimate feeling lonely either, especially those with dementia.  There are countless reasons a patient should be visited, if for no other reason but to be humane,  but the most important being to prevent another persons death.  Please, help me help others that cannot help themselves.  I am NOT asking for money just signatures and sharing!!!
My "first" proposal - Swipe card readers above the beds.  If the card has not been swiped "within that patients required time frame" a signal goes off at the nurses desk.  One five minute pause button would be allowed at the nurses desk but if the card is not swiped in the patients room at the end of those five minutes the alarm at the desk goes off again and cannot be shut off until the reader has been swiped.  I believe this is a very simple solution for an extremely serious problem.
We pay these facilities anywhere from $3,000 to over $20,000 a month.  When a patient is admitted there are documents that are signed, and agreed upon, which state how often a nurse/aid will visit.  Again, there is no regulation for this (!!!) so there is a tremendous amount of neglect.  Lets change that.  Lets make sure they live up to their end of the agreement.  And lets face it friends, life is unpredictable, it could be anyone of us down the road.
Please help me if you will.  I cannot do this alone.  All I need is your signature.  I will take it to our Senators, Congressmen, and Governors throughout our country!     The first thing I have to do is get someone in the government to care - then we can start discussing the other abuses that you see below!   Thank you for reading this.  I pledge to you to follow through.

Breakdown of Complaints specific  to Nursing Homes -According to the National Center for Victims of Crime, the breakdown of elder abuse complaints is as follows:  5,000,000 elders are abused each year in nursing homes
