We are Seniors at Environmental Charter High School working on a civic action with a group of students. One in six people in California experiences a mental illness, while one in twenty-four people in California faces mental illnesses that cause damage in the function of their daily life. California’s Mental Health Services Act needs improvement, as millions of dollars rest in counties’ accounts. If California were to use the funds efficiently, this may provide more treatment services available, an increase in staff and more resources accessible for those in need. If you or a loved one has experienced Mental Health conditions, then this does affect you. We are hoping that you can speak with other officials in modifying the policy, as this issue impacts the lives of many, including my younger brother. We were fortunate enough to have treatment available, but this is not the case for others who do not have immediate access to treatment. Hopefully, you have considered this and work towards modifying the policy
