Attention Northampton Township Residents
On March 28th, 2018, three (a majority) Northampton Township Supervisors (Barry Moore, Kimberly Rose & Eileen Silver) brought up, motioned and voted to purchase the Northampton Vally Golf Course, Banquet Hall, Bar & Country Club for ~$14,000,000.
Yes you read that right, $14,000,000.00! to purchase ~120-130 acres to “prevent development”. Meanwhile another opportunity to prevent development on over 400 acres for under $2,000,000.00 languishes, reportedly, for “lack of funding”. This while supporting HUNDREDS of housing units at Spring Mill CC and at the Bucks County Rose Farm along Buck Road.
o Townships should NOT be in the golf & country club business in the first place.
o The extreme price is an outrageous use of Township funds in the second place.
o The country club operations will likely LOSE MONEY every year, and will require subsidy from the township (can you spell multiple tax increases?)
o The golf course is losing money. The ‘banquet’ business finances are questionable. no financial statements nor tax returns have been made publicly available by the seller.
o There are serious liability concerns. The Township Manager, Robert Pelegrino will have his name on the liquor license. Recently a neighboring municipality is being sued due to an fatal traffic accident by a person who was drinking at their ‘municipal’ operation.
o This operation will be in direct competition with other Township businesses. This will hurt our commercial, economic base.
o There is NO OFFER from any developer for $18,000,000! as has been claimed.
o There is NO due diligence about the finances of the current operation publicly available. Documents are being SELECTIVELY shared with supporters of this scheme by supportive Supervisors. not with opponents.
o There is NO BUSINESS PLAN for operation of this concern.
o Current employees of the Golf, Banquet, etc operation will become TOWNSHIP EMPLOYEES.
o The physical plant of the NVCC is in need of EXTENSIVE renovations ($$$!!!)
IF RESIDENTS DO NOT SPEAK UP THIS COMING WEDNESDAY, THE SUPERVISORS WILL COMMIT $14,000,000 TO PURCHASE THIS OPERATION.
YOU WILL HAVE NO CHANCE TO SEE WHAT HALF OF OUR ANNUAL REVENUE WILL BUY! BUT YOU WILL BE SADDLED WITH THE DEBT!
AT THE VERY LEAST, THE SUPERVISORS SHOULD TABLE THIS MOTION AND PUT IT TO A REFERENDUM IN NOVEMBER.
THIS PROPERTY HAS BEEN FOR SALE FOR OVER 10 YEARS. WHY THE SUDDEN RUSH TO BUY IT IN SIXTY DAYS WITHOUT PUBLIC HEARINGS, COMMENT, ETC?
The motion was brought up at the March 2018 meeting during a supervisor report session.
The motion was NOT on the agenda. The letter of intent was given to the other supervisors at the ‘pre-meeting’ (at 7pm) before the start of the regular meeting. It was passed in the dark of night at the end of the meeting during supervisor reports.
What are supervisors Moore, Rose and Silver trying to hide?
Come to the meeting on May 23 and help stop this debacle.
o Supervisor Rose has a conflict of interest. (She LIVES in this neighborhood). She should recuse herself AND NOT VOTE ON THIS ISSUE. Has she asked the Township Solicitor about this situation? The Pennsylvania Ethics Commission is being contacted.
o NO ALTERNATIVES are being considered which would accomplish the same end at a much lower cost and a better chance of success.
