DFI Have A Heart. Don't Evict This Family!

One of two families at risk of being evicted this week has found housing. The second family which includes two children living in a home in San Francisco’s Excelsior district is at extreme risk of becoming homeless as soon as this week.

The owner lost the home in 2014 but rented to the two families in 2015, collecting money from them all the while — until her abrupt departure in the final days of July. That's when the families found out they had to move.

Attempts to work with the current owner, DFI Funding, a mortgage banker to extend time for the families to find housing have fallen flat. The family still in the home could be evicted as early this week. They have no where to go. They are on waiting lists and have gone to various agencies for help, but since they have to move so quickly none of these options are in place yet. In addition all shelters are full. These are the kind of folks who are ending up on our city streets.

Please call and email Steve Anderson of DFI Funding, Inc. Tell him to have a heart. Let him know that our community doesn't want any more homeless families, and that this is more than a corporate business transaction. Let him know our community supports Bertha's family, and we urge DFI to give them two months to find new housing and for the agencies they have applied to for help, to kick in.

We are asking DFI to give the Perez family an official two-month extension until October 30. DFI has the power to grant the extension and they should provide an extension so the family has the security of their home while they attempt to find housing, without an extension from DFI they are at risk of any eviction any day.

They did not know they were living in a foreclosed home with the clock ticking. We are asking DFI Funding to #HaveAHeart DFI stands to make $$$ once these tenants leave. The house is currently listed at almost $1-million. It is not a hardship on DFI to give them two months to find housing, but it will be an extreme hardship for these families to have to move out this week.

These are hard-working folks on a desperate search for new housing. All they are asking for is two months to make that happen.

Says Bertha, “If it were just us adults if we had to live on the streets, well so be it. But the children, that can’t happen. They’re worried, they don’t want to be pulled out of school. They keep asking ‘mama, what’s going to happen to us. Do something! We don’t want to live on the streets."
