COVID-19 has led to considerably significant levels of stress on students here in Montana. Online school represents an immense change for students to adapt to therefore causing great stress. I am a student, and I understand the amount of stress that online school is causing as I am undergoing through it myself. The pressure of being up on time for those early morning meetings, trying to turn in all the assignments on time from multiple teachers, and trying to stay caught up as more assignments are added every day, is hard to manage. It is presently the fourth quarter of the school year, and students have endured online school for quite some time now. With only a few weeks left in the school year, I believe it is admissible to allow students to be done with online school for the remainder of the year.

By allowing students the remainder of the school year off, their levels of stress will be drastically diminished. Lower levels of stress have many positive outcomes on mental and physical health. A few of the positive outcomes consist of lower levels of depression, better levels of cardiovascular health, better emotional health, improved focus, etc. Continuous stress on a person may contribute to a more significant risk of developing mental health issues such as depression. If depression rates begin to go up, so will the suicide rates. Many students across Montana have stopped attending online school altogether as they have become too stressed to advance. Each day, more and more students are beginning to drop their online classes.

By discontinuing online school and granting students an early summer vacation, students will not be missing out on educational needs. At this time in the year, it seems to be inconsequential to discontinue school. By going through with this, it will also grant students more free time. Allowing students more free time means that they can devote more time to their family, spend more time outside, and utilize more time socializing while still following the social distancing guidelines.

In the long run, you can see how discontinuing online school for the remnant of the year would generate ample positive outcomes in every household by condensing the levels of stress in each student. By signing this petition, you are helping get us closer to achieving our goal of diminishing the stress levels within students, to create an ultimately positive outcome for families and students. Please help by signing this petition and make a difference within your community. Thank you for taking the time to interpret this petition, and we hope you decide to consider the benefits of discontinuing online education.
