Chris Moral started this petition to Steve Adler

I've lived in Austin my whole life, and the issue regarding homelessness was always apparent. I believe I was ignorant to the situation until the past couple of months after I started working on 6th street. In my time working at the bar, I've seen the drug addiction amoungst the homeless community via seeing alleyway drug deals and people passed out on the sidewalks. I've talked to the ones behind our bar and heard stories of homeless people getting shot and experiencing cases of untreated hypothermia.

With the recent laws regarding homelessness where the city tried to clean up the city by tearing down homeless heavy areas, It just made the homeless community migrate to different parts of the city. To me, this seems like a easy way to avoid the topic as a whole by the city, since it doesn't aid the problem. It just alienates homeless people to the general population.

To me, a thing to keep in mind is that everyone down there is a product of there surroundings, and all have stories. I know plenty of them will take advantage of your sympathy, I've been victim to just throwing money at them to feel better about myself. That's why we can help by giving outlets for addiction and giving essentials like food and water. But to just push them out and call that a solution is the equivalent to sweeping it under a rug.

I just want the city to acknowledge the problem and propose solutions that treat homeless people like people, not homeless. and advocate more facilities rather then the arch on 7th street to accommodate the population
